Meeting 17 August 2026

Two new games in one sitting!

Mid winter at Como and a bit wet too, but we were all present and planning one new game introduced by Valerie plus an old favourite, but it turned to be two new games introduced by Valerie. The first (main) game was Flip 7 – a card game in which one decides to try for more points or sit with what you’ve got. The risk of trying for more points by getting the dealer to “hit me” is that you go busted and get no points if you get two cards with the same point value. The values go from 0-12 with higher point cards being more numerous. There are interesting additional cards that add to the game. It went over quite well and is now in the official games list.
The second game was scheduled to be Yahtzee, and we had beautifully decorated score sheets (thanks Nicole) ready to go, but alas, no dice! Before the panic began to spread Val reached into her bag and brought out her plan B, another new game called Last Word. It took a bit longer to learn and was not as well received as Flip 7, in fact El Prez threw in the towel and quit shortly before it ended. It hasn’t made it into the official list (yet).
So, looking at the graph, it seems Tara is making steady progress up the ladder – she has had only one WHP back in February. Louise and Rob are alternating between 2nd and 3rd places about 85 points below Tara, then there is a gap of about 150 points to the bunch – Matt, Nicole, Wayne and Peter. At the bottom of the ladder after a 75 point gap is Val, although it looks like she is finally starting an upward trend with her 50 points won tonight in Flip 7 – I still think Val could be a force to watch, maybe 2027 will be her year. The biggest improver is of course Nicole with her win tonight, overtaking two opponents and almost reaching 4th place, being only 5 points below Matt.
